NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

Two people are charged in a meth-related explosion and fire that took place in Madison Saturday afternoon.

Authorities said 27-year-old Kelly Wakefield and her boyfriend, convicted felon Michael Drury, sustained minor injuries during the incident at the Alta Loma Apartments on Crestview Drive.

Wakefield was seen running from her apartment while it was on fire, allegedly throwing something in a dumpster and running back inside.

The duo reportedly admitted to being inside the apartment while meth was being manufactured. Authorities later found a burnt plastic bottle, an empty lithium battery shell, empty pseudoepehdrine blister packages and other materials indicating that the drug was being made.

The process resulted in an explosion inside the apartment, igniting a two-alarm fire.

The blaze destroyed eight apartments and displaced around 75 people. The Red Cross is assisting the victims.

Both Wakefield and 22-year-old Drury were charged with manufacturing meth and aggravated arson. Each is being held on $300,000 bond.

Officials said Drury has previous convictions for both robbery and burglary, while Wakefield has previous convictions for theft.
