Police say no foul play in Jackson YMCA drowning

Posted: Updated:

JACKSON, Tenn. (AP) - Authorities say no foul play was involved in the drowning of a man at the YMCA in Jackson.

Jackson police and the Madison County Medical Examiner's Office investigated the drowning of 49-year-old Wayne Dillard on Wednesday.

Police said Dillard went to the YMCA's pool area alone and asked the on-duty lifeguard about the water's temperature. The lifeguard then went to the other side of the pool to assist other people.

Police said the lifeguard then saw Dillard remove his clothes and enter the water wearing only his underwear. The lifeguard went to tell Dillard that he could not swim in his underwear, but Dillard was already motionless on the bottom of the pool.

The lifeguard then pulled Dillard out of the water. Dillard died at a hospital.
