Vanderbilt head coach Derek Mason made his first trip to SEC Media Days in Birmingham this week.
All eyes were on the Commodores new coach as he has a tall task in front of him the next few years trying to replicate the success of his predecessor James Franklin.
Franklin took the Commodores to new heights with back to back nine win seasons and the pressure is on for Mason to do the same.
If there are any doubters about Mason’s ability to replace Franklin, they were laid to rest by his fellow coaches.
South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier said, "I like Derek Mason. I think he's an excellent coach. I mean, what they did defensively at Stanford was about as good as anybody in the country, so I think he'll do a very good job there."
Tennessee head coach Butch Jones echoed Spurrier.
"Well Derek Mason is a fine, fine football coach. Now obviously, I've followed the football program very closely at Stanford and he's done a great job and he has a great reputation, and I know that Derek will do a great job there."
