CLEVELAND, Tenn. -

The driver of a sedan managed save his life by ducking down as far as he could when he realized his car was about to slide underneath an 18-wheeler.

ABC affiliate WTVC reported Brandon Evans was on his way to work Wednesday morning when the accident happened in Cleveland, Tenn.

Evans said he saw the semi pull out in front of him, but there wasn’t any room to go around him.

“There wasn’t nothing I could do except get down real low,” he told news station.

Evans reportedly slammed on his breaks and slid down as far as he could in his seat.

At first, his seatbelt got in the way.

“So I had to flick it off in order to get down as low as I could,” Evans recalled.

Ultimately, his Honda Accord slide underneath the truck and was practically sliced in half.

Evans managed to crawl out of what was left of the driver’s side window with minor scrapes and bruises.

Officers on the scene were dumbfounded he wasn’t hurt worse.

“It was actually a miracle because we see these things a lot and they don’t usually survive,” Evie West with the Cleveland Police Department told WTVC.

The driver of the truck told the news station he has been driving for 30 years and never had an accident like this before.

He added that he’s very grateful no one was hurt.
