7,850 gallons of sewage overflow into Mobile creek

MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - Mobile health officials are urging people to take precautions near a south Alabama creek after a sewage overflow.

Local health district officials said in a release Tuesday that Mobile Area Water and Sewer System responded to a spill of about 7,850 gallons of wastewater into Montlimar Creek.

Health officials say a broken sewer main led to the sewage spill. Mobile County Health District officials say utility crews have repaired the sewer line to prevent additional overflows.

Mobile County Health Officer Dr. Bernard Eichold says all seafood harvested in the area around the creek should be cooked thoroughly. He says people should also wash their hands after cleaning and before cooking food.
