MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - A woman received a misdemeanor citation after she allegedly left a dog inside her SUV while she shopped at a Murfreesboro Walmart Saturday.

Surveillance video showed owner Shirley Bowling left the dog inside the car for at least 30 minutes before a witness safely removed the canine.

Bowling told police she did not realize she was inside the retailer that long.

The dog, a three-year-old Chihuahua, was weak and thirsty after being pulled from the vehicle.

At the time of the incident, it was 94 degrees outside, police said.

Animal control was notified of the incident.

Bowling was issued a misdemeanor citation for animal cruelty.
