SMYRNA, Tenn. - An abuse victim who helped shape child abuse laws in Tennessee was remembered by his friends and family Friday night in Smyrna.

A memorial service was held for Joshua Osborne at the Springhouse Worship and Art Center at 7 p.m.

During the ceremony, Osborne's pastor talked about what he accomplished in his life.

“Josh faced so much adversity physically, not just the abuse, and then obviously emotionally with forgiveness issues and stuff. The grace with which he faced that and just the joy he had in his life, it was so real,” said Pastor Ronnie Meeks.

Osborne passed away last week at Vanderbilt University Medical Center from an infection. He was 24.

At the age of 15 he was found at his father and stepmother's home in Wilson County chained to a bed and starving.

In 2008, Osborne spoke of his ordeal before a Tennessee legislative committee in an effort to add dehydration and starvation to state child abuse laws.
