Former Autaugaville fire dept. official convicted

Posted: Updated:

AUTAUGAVILLE, Ala. (AP) - The Alabama attorney general says a former assistant chief of the Autaugaville Volunteer Fire Department has been convicted of an ethics violation and theft charge.

Attorney General Luther Strange says a jury found Mack Cell Harmon guilty of a felony ethics violation and third-degree theft. He's set to be sentenced Aug. 20.

Prosecutors say Harmon used his official position in 2012 to illegally take a $500 donation intended for the fire department.

Two other people were also indicted in the case. Former department chief and former chairman of the Autauga County Commission Danny Chavers pleaded guilty in March to ethics and theft charges. An ethics charge and a theft charge are pending against Ernest Terry Stoudemire, another former fire department chief.
