NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

Country music superstar Garth Brooks is making a comeback.

He announced Thursday morning that he has signed a new deal with Sony records and will release a new album in the coming months.

“We couldn’t be more excited about joining forces with Garth to bring his music to people around the world,” Doug Morris, CEO of Sony records said Thursday.

Brooks, 52, retired in 2001 to raise his three daughters.

Since then, he has done several charity concerts including the nine sold-out shows he performed in 2010 to benefit Nashville flood relief.

Brooks will also be going on a world tour, but said he won't announce the opening city and concert dates until July 14.

For the first time ever, Brooks will allow his music to be sold digitally .Fans can purchase it in the next two to three weeks on his Web site.

Earlier this year, Brooks and wife Trisha Yearwood said they were planning to move back to Nashville in the near future after Brooks’ youngest daughter graduated high school.

“The greatest gift you ever gave me was to allow me to go home and raise my children,” Brooks said Thursday.

Brooks has had 25 No. 1 records and has received 30 CMA Awards.

He is also a longtime member of the Grand Ole Opry.
