67-year-old woman severely burned in Smyrna fire

SMYRNA, Tenn. -

A woman was critically injured in a fire early Wednesday morning at a Smyrna apartment complex.

Hazel Starnes, 67, was rescued from her room at the Imperial Garden Apartments by a firefighter around 3:55 a.m.

Officials stated Lieutenant Bart Myers crawled 10 feet into the room to locate Starnes.

She suffered serious burns and was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville for treatment.

Starnes was last listed in critical condition.

Lt. Myers was treated at Stonecrest Hospital for smoke inhalation and released shortly after.

Firefighters stated they located the blaze inside a bedroom and were able to extinguish it quickly.

The cause has yet to be determined.
