2 early morning crashes slow traffic on I-40

LEBANON, Tenn. - Two accidents occurred just two miles from each other, shutting down a portion of Interstate 40 West early Wednesday morning.

The first wreck occurred when a semi and pickup truck, towing a small trailer carrying a cow, collided just east of mile marker 236.

The driver of the pickup truck was airlifted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. His identity or condition was not immediately released.

The cow was killed in the accident.

A second crash, involving a tractor trailer, occurred a short time later at mile marker 238.

The two separate accidents caused Interstate 40 west to be shut down as crews responded.

Additional information regarding the crashes was not immediately released.
