A man was charged Monday in the death of his daughter, who died at the age of 22 last year.

Authorities stated that Anthony Lane “violently beat” his daughter Amanda when she was five weeks old, leaving her critically injured.

She remained critically injured until her death last year. An autopsy revealed her death was caused by complications to the blunt force trauma she suffered as an infant.

Lane, 41, was subsequently charged with first degree murder in her death Monday.

He is being held in the Rutherford County jail. A hearing has been set for July 18.

After the incident as an infant, Amanda was adopted by Nancy Woodall-Holmes when she was three months. Woodall-Holmes has cared for children with special needs for 32 years.

Authorities said Amanda required four injections daily for a diabetic condition, suffered from seizures, and had cerebral palsy.

Woodall-Holmes described Amanda as “pure joy,” saying she woke up and went to sleep with a smile each day.

“Her life was such a gift to me,” the mother said. “Everybody who crossed her path walked away a different person.”

Rutherford County authorities said Lane was convicted of aggravated child abuse against Amanda in 1992 after the beating and was sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Her mother, Stephanie Pinson, was convicted for accessory after the fact of child abuse and sentenced to two years in jail.

After Lane’s release on the child abuse conviction for Amanda, he was charged and convicted of aggravated child abuse of a second child, Amanda’s half-brother Ryan, and given a 25-year sentence in Hardeman County.

He was serving his time in Hardeman County prior to the first degree murder charge Monday.
