Tennessee linebacker A.J Johnson is on the preseason watch list for the Chuck Bednarik Award for the second year in a row.
The award is given annually to the nation’s top defensive player.
Johnson, a senior, was a 2013 AP and Coaches All-SEC first-team selection. He was also the first Volunteer to record 100 tackles in back to back seasons since Earnest Fields did so in 1990-91.
Johnson had 106 tackles, 8.5 for a loss of 17 yards, with a recovered fumble and three broken up passes.
He is currently third on the list for UT career assisted tackles with 164. He has 324 tackles in 36 career games.
