CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. -

A Fort Campbell soldier was arrested Friday for driving under the influence after he reportedly crashed his motorcycle and injured his passenger.

According to The Leaf Chronicle, witnesses said Cory Smith was driving recklessly on Meriwether Drive and attempted to a wheelie when he was ejected from the bike with his passenger.

The two slid across the pavement and grass.

Smith sustained friction burns to his body while his passenger had a broken finger and friction burns on both her arms and legs, according to The Leaf Chronicle.

When Clarksville Police arrived on scene they reportedly smelled alcohol on Smith and noticed he had bloodshot eyes.

Smith, 26, allegedly told police he had one beer before the crash happened.

The Leaf Chronicle reported that Smith couldn’t perform the walk-and-turn sobriety test and refused a blood test.

He and his passenger were taken to Gateway Medical Center.

Police obtained a warrant and Smith was reportedly given a blood test, but the results are pending.

He was charged with vehicular assault, driving under the influence, and violation of the implied consent law.

Smith’s bond was set at $7,500.

The warrant stated Smith has a history of driving under the influence, according to The Leaf Chronicle.
