Mother, son injured after apartment stairwell collapses

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

 A mother and son were injured Friday evening after a stairwell at an apartment complex collapsed.

The incident took place at 6:15 p.m. at the Pointe Breeze Apartments on 488 Lemont Drive.

Officials said a man, his girlfriend and her teenage son were taking a mattress up a stairwell when it gave way.

The woman and her son were trapped and had to be rescued. They were taken to a nearby hospital with bumps and bruises and are expected to be ok.

The Nashville Fire Department used a ladder to rescue other tenants who were trapped on a balcony.

No one was seriously hurt.
