While many Middle Tennessee residents spent July 4th attending picnics and parades, several families in Rutherford County spent the holiday passing out baked goods to community heroes.
Dozens of local residents showed up at police departments, fire stations, EMS stations and veterans homes to surprise the men and women with cupcakes.
“We really just wanted to get the kids active and involved in something on the 4th of July to honor the people that not only work today but spend their time serving and protecting our community. What better day to do that than on July 4th?” Murfreesboro resident Kathy Polumbo told News 2.
Polumbo’s three children, along with two of their friends, dressed in patriotic colors and delivered handmade cards and more than 200 cupcakes, all baked by their parents.
“We got the kids together earlier this week to have a play date and work on the crafts, the cards, decorate the boxes and make some police hats just to have them fully decked out in their gear,” said Polumbo.
