ATLANTA, Ga. - The Georgia father accused of killing his son after leaving him in a hot car all day was exchanging racy text messages with a woman and teen hours before the 22-month-old was found dead, detectives said.

The startling detail was revealed Thursday during a probable cause court hearing.

According to ABC News, the prosecutor brought up the messages, which were sexual in nature, because it showed father Justin Harris’ state of mind.

“He wanted to live a child free life,” the prosecutor said.

Detectives also said during Thursday’s hearing Cooper Harris endured a painful death.

Authorities said Justin Harris previously told his wife Cooper “looked peaceful” when he found him.

Prior to Cooper’s death last month, investigators said the child’s father searched things online such as how to survive in prison and kids dying in cars.

Harris is accused of forgetting Cooper inside his SUV around 8:30 a.m. on June 18 while he went to work.

According to arrest warrants, he left work just after 4 p.m. and found his son unresponsive. Despite attempts at CPR, Cooper was pronounced dead at the scene.

He had been inside the car for approximately seven hours.

Harris was charged with felony murder and second-degree child cruelty. He remains jailed without bond in Cobb County, Georgia.
