NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A gunshot victim was found Thursday afternoon near the football field at Antioch Middle School on Blue Hole Road in Nashville.

The 19-year-old victim, identified as Jerell Bailey, was found in the street in front of the stadium.

According to Bailey’s brother, the pair was walking from their home on Barella Drive to a bus stop near the Global Mall, formerly Hickory Hollow around 1:10 p.m.

Metro police said at least two of the four people inside a tan-colored older model Chevy vehicle fired shots at Bailey, striking him in the midsection.

Bailey was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for treatment.

The vehicle was last seen traveling east on Bell Road towards Antioch Pike.

A motive was not immediately known.

Jennifer Myers rushed to pick-up her daughter who was at day camp near the school at the Antioch Community Center after hearing about the shooting.

"It was kind of scary because of course she didn't know anything other then it was a shooting and they had the roads blocked off an that's all she knew so I came straight over here," said Myers.

Tony Britton, who lives in the area, said a shooting in broad daylight near a school is just a sad sign of the times.

"I'm just not surprised anymore something is always happening here," said Britton.

Anyone with information in the shooting is urged to contact police at 651-862-8600 or Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME.
