Nashville Predators stay quiet in day one of free agency

The Nashville Predators made it very clear they are in the market for a top forward. They acquired James Neal from the Penguins in exchange for forwards Patric Hornqvist and Nick Spaling. But they want more.

They hoped to acquire another forward through free agency which began on Tuesday. However, the first day of free agency is coming to an end and the Predators have not added to the roster.

The focus has been on finding a center to play alongside of Neal and an obvious possibility was Paul Stastny of the Colorado Avalanche. Stastny, however, signed a four-year deal with St. Louis shortly into the free agency period.

There are two other strong centers still available in Mikhail Grabovski and Derek Roy, however, neither would likely play on the first line.

The Predators also had interest in Ottowa’s all-star center Jason Spezza. However, Spezza’s no trade clause included Nashville. He was dealt to Dallas Tuesday in exchange for forward Alex Chiasson, forward prospects Alex Guptill, Nicholas Paul and Ludwig Karlsson, as well as a draft pick next year.
