Jeff Morrow - WKRN News 2

Jeff Morrow

Jeff grew up in western Pennsylvania always fascinated by the weather, particularly severe thunderstorms. One event in particular peaked his curiosity and sent him on a path to being a meteorologist. He was sailing with his father on a small lake in northwestern Pennsylvania when a large squall line of thunderstorms blew through knocking the small sailboat on its side and throwing both Jeff and his dad into the water. They hung on to the side of the boat for about 45 minutes while lightning flashed around them. It was then that Jeff decided he wanted to learn more about these storms and how to predict them so they wouldn’t be caught out in the open again.

When it was time for college, Jeff went to The Pennsylvania State University and earned a B.S. in Meteorology. He then worked for the private forecasting company, Accu-Weather Inc., for five years. Duties included a daily forecasts for 10 different radio stations and briefing on-air television meteorologists on the day’s weather and upcoming forecast.

In 1985 Jeff came south to work for the fledgling Weather Channel, based in Atlanta, Georgia. For close to 28 years he worked on-air at TWC broadcasting nationwide on the day’s weather and extended forecasts, particularly focusing on severe thunderstorms, tornado outbreaks, blizzards, ice storms and tropical weather. For a large number of those years, Jeff was part of a team of meteorologists that went into the field to cover major weather events live, as they happened. These events included almost all the major hurricanes of the last twenty years, such as Katrina, Andrew, Wilma and Charlie. Jeff was in New Orleans for hurricane Katrina and saw firsthand the devastation wrought by this powerful hurricane. He also witnessed the huge EF-4 tornado that ripped through Tuscaloosa and western Birmingham, Alabama in 2011.

Jeff has done live reporting on NBC Nightly News, the Today Show, Fox News, MSNBC and numerous local television stations around the country for various weather events while at The Weather Channel.

In 2013 Jeff left TWC and worked at a local television station in Greenville, South Carolina. In May of 2014 Jeff accepted the position of staff meteorologist at WKRN.

Jeff is married to his wife Lisa and has two lovely daughters. He is a member of the American Meteorological Society and holds that organization’s Television Seal of Approval.
