Restaurant opens in historic Melrose theater

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

A new restaurant called Sinema opened in the Melrose Theater on Franklin Pike Friday, featuring a former TV star as the head chef.

Dave Levitski was a finalist on season three of “Top Chef” and is a James Beard Award nominee. He said he is aware of the nostalgia many people have about the location.

“There’s entertainment ghosts here. Stories I’ve heard from people all over the city are, ‘I had my first kiss here, I saw Star Wars here,’” said Levitski.

The venture is a family affair for its owners, Ryman Hospitality CEO Colin Reed and his sons, who are all in the partnership group.

“The main thing we wanted to accomplish is paying homage to the past of Nashville and where the city is going in the future,” stated Q. Taylor, partner and general manager of Sinema.

The new restaurant still has the mirrored ceiling and the grand staircase.

Taylor said they changed the C in cinema to an S as a playful way to glorify the theater.
