HICKMAN COUNTY, Tenn. - Charges are pending in a crash on Interstate 40 in Hickman County that killed three people and injured six others, including children.

The accident happened at 1:20 p.m. Friday afternoon near mile marker 161.

According the Tennessee Highway Patrol, a Toyota Tacoma was traveling eastbound in the right lane when a semi-truck without a trailer tried to pass him on the left side.

The Toyota then proceeded to change lanes, but ended up hitting the semi with its left rear.

The truck spun around and flipped into a ditch on the right side of the road.

The force of the collision caused the semi to cross the median and go into westbound traffic.

It struck a Mercury Grand Marquis and both vehicles overturned.

The deceased victims in the Grand Marque included the 22-year-old driver, William Shelburne, 19-year-old Claire Shelburne and 50-year-old Laura Shelburne.
