Teen charged in string of car burglaries in Christiana

A 16-year-old is facing multiple charges after authorities say he broke into multiple cars early Monday morning.

The thefts took place on Ridgewood and Buzzard Branch drives in Christiana, just outside of Murfreesboro.

The teen was captured after deputies received a call of a car break-in just before 6 a.m. and he spotted a short time later walking down Rankin Drive.

He reportedly dropped a backpack he was carrying and took off running when he saw law enforcement officials.

Once located and arrested, he allegedly told deputies he and a friend were breaking into the cars and he dropped the backpack because he didn’t want to be caught with it.

The teenager was taken to the juvenile detention center and booked on multiple charges of burglary and theft, as well as evading arrest.

The second suspect was not located.

Authorities said the backpack contained toboggans and a power cord along with $43 in cash that the teen said belonged to him.

Some stolen property was recovered and returned to their rightful owners, including coins, text books, stuffed animals, a toothbrush, sunglasses, Polo cologne, two Garmins, bandages, golf glove and a lanyard.

Other items, however, were recovered but remain unclaimed, including a backpack, chargers, shooting glasses, a can of pepper spray, pocket knives, necklaces, six mobile phones, cameras, Garmin GPS devices, a Nintendo, deodorant, cigarettes, lighters, flashlights, a nylon belt, eye drops and cigarette papers.

Victims who want to reclaim their property should contact Deputy Coble at 615-898-7770 or Detective Steve Brown at 615-904-3052.
