NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

An off-duty Metro police officer was decommissioned Monday after his arrest for DUI.

A Tennessee Highway Patrol trooper saw Travis Kneale driving his personal vehicle on Broadway, near Sixth Avenue South, early Monday morning without his headlights on.

Upon initiating a traffic stop, the trooper reported Kneale, 26, smelled of alcohol, had bloodshot eyes and was unsteady on his feet.

Kneale was taken into custody after performing poorly on field sobriety tests.

Authorities also located a handgun in the console of his vehicle.

Kneale is charged with DUI, among other charges.

He was decommissioned upon his release from jail on a $2,000 bond.

Kneale graduated from the Police Academy in December 2012.
