ATLANTA, Ga. -

Doctors in Atlanta recently delivered a woman's baby while she underwent surgery to treat a deadly cardiac condition.

ABC News reports Edita Tracey, 35, now likes to describe her newborn daughter as a miracle baby.

When she was 36 weeks pregnant, Tracey began feeling pressure on her back.

Initially, she didn’t think much of it since she was nearing her ninth month of pregnancy.

“I was close to nine-months pregnant. It’s normal to feel tired and have some pain in the back,” Tracey said.

The pressure, however, began feeling different and more painful, eventually moving up to her chest, so she called for help.

Once at the hospital the doctors who ran tests on Tracey’s chest found a potentially catastrophic condition called aortic dissection.

The aorta artery, which runs directly from the heart, was rupturing due to high blood pressure.

Tracey was immediately rushed into emergency surgery where doctors performed a C-section in just 30 seconds to safely deliver her daughter.

They then performed a nine-hour open-heart surgery to repair the tear on Tracey’s artery.

She told ABC News that when she woke up, she had no idea of the ordeal she had gone through.

“I was just happy that I was alive and our daughter was alive,” Tracey said. “I think that the baby saved my life.”

Tracey is now home, grateful and healthy while learning to care for her six-week-old daughter with her husband.
