NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

After four years as a defensive end, the Tennessee Titans' Derrick Morgan is adjusting to another new coaching staff and a new position.

Morgan was drafted as a defensive end out of Georgia Tech and spent the first four seasons of his NFL career with his hand on the ground.

With new head coach Ken Whisenhunt switching from a 4-3 to a 3-4 defense though, Morgan is switching to linebacker and now starts most plays standing up.

Morgan has dropped about ten pounds and is down to about 260 as he prepares for the change. Morgan says he likes the new opportunities the scheme gives him in rushing the quarterback.

"Your rushing dynamics change when you’re coming out of a two point stance opposed to a three or four so it's a good look. It's a change but I like it. I like being able to see exactly what's going on from the offense," Morgan stated.

The coaching staff is also pleased with the transition of the former Georgia Tech star.

Whisenhunt happily gave him a ringing endorsement Wednesday stating, “I've seen Derek stand up and do a lot of different things, so he's a versatile athlete and we're trying to use him in positions that make it difficult for teams to match up with him. He's done a great job.”

Morgan has a modest 15 sacks over the last three seasons, but his 47 quarterback pressures is among the best in the NFL.
