NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

Disciplinary action against a Metro police sergeant has been decided after he reportedly partook in the decision to drive a police officer home instead of immediately arresting him after he showed for work drunk last Friday.

Sergeant Terrence Bradley received a 15-day suspension without pay Tuesday after the incident involving Officer Nathan Silvers.

Silvers, who graduated from the police academy last November, is accused of arriving to work Friday night in uniform, armed and apparently drunk.

Bradley, who was present at the time, reportedly disarmed Silvers and notified Field Supervising Captain Kenny Dyer.

After administering two breath alcohol tests, both of which showed Silvers was past the DUI threshold at .31% and .25%, the decision was made to decommission Silvers and drive him to his Hendersonville home instead of having him arrested.

After learning what happened, Metro police Chief Steve Anderson ordered an investigation into Silvers and the immediate decommissioning of Captain Dyer and Sgt. Bradley.

On Saturday, Silvers was charged with DUI, possession of a firearm while under the influence and violation of the implied consent law for refusing to take a blood alcohol test.

Silvers submitted his resignation from the police department Monday to be effective after serving a 30-day suspension.

Also on Monday, Caption Dyer submitted his notice of retirement to be effective after he serves a 30-day suspension.
