FAIRFIELD, Conn. -

A missing parrot in Connecticut was returned to its owner Friday after a woman who heard it screaming thought it was a child, and called for help.

According to ABC News, the woman heard the voice saying “Daddy, daddy, daddy,” near a school in Fairfield.

After following the voice, she spotted Ralphie in a tree 25 feet in the air.

“The voice kept saying, ‘daddy, daddy, daddy,’ then said ‘what,’” Fairfiled police Lt. James Perez told a local news station.

He claimed it was “almost if the child was talking to someone else.”

Animal control couldn’t reach the parrot, according to ABC News, and eventually the fire department rescued Ralphie and took him to an animal shelter.

Christopher Gerbasi, the parrot’s owner, reported him missing days before.

"We're just happy there were no children that were hurt and that it wasn't a child at all, but in fact a bird just yearning for its father or its daddy, and we got it back to him," Perez said.

Ralphie was reportedly only a mile away from his home.
