SMYRNA, Tenn. -

A Murfreesboro woman was killed after she was ejected from a vehicle during a crash on Interstate 24 in Rutherford County early Sunday morning.

The crash happened around 3:30 a.m. near the Almaville Road exit in Smyrna.

The accident report states that a Chevy Tahoe was traveling west when it left the roadway and hit the median. The driver overcorrected back onto the interstate, causing the SUV to overturn multiple times, landing right-side up.

Kathleen Davenport, 26, a passenger in the SUV, was ejected from the vehicle and died on the scene.

The driver, Blake Rutledge, 31, of Rockvale, was flown to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville with serious injuries.

News 2 learned he was conscious when crews arrived to the scene, but has since been non-responsive.

An update on his condition was not immediately known.

Investigators believe drugs or alcohol played a factor in the crash and felony charges are pending.
