NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

A former Tennessee Highway Patrol sergeant has been indicted on a prostitution charge.

Daniel Threet, 45, surrendered Saturday morning on a Davidson County grand jury indictment charging him with patronizing prostitution near a school zone.

Metro police stated they started investigating Threet in early February.

According to a press release, he patronized a prostitute on Stainback Avenue on January 31.

Officials said the male prostitute advertised on the Internet.

Threet was reportedly in full uniform and driving a state-issued vehicle at the time of the incident.

He resigned from the Tennessee Highway Patrol after he was placed on leave as a result of the investigation.

Threet started with the Tennessee Department of Safety in 1993 and was promoted to a THP sergeant 10 years ago.

News 2 pulled Threet’s personnel file and there are some issues.

In 2001 he was suspended without pay for a day after he failed to unload his weapon and it fired while an officer was cleaning the weapon. No one was injured but leaving a loaded magazine in a gun is against police policy.

In March of 2007, Threet was involved in a crash while “speeding in the rain,” according to his personnel file.

During their investigation into the crash, the THP found a trash bag in his state-issued vehicle containing empty prescription bottles and that prompted an internal investigation.

According to state paperwork obtained by News 2, Threet hurt his back in an off-duty weightlifting incident and began using pain medication.

Supervisors with the Department of Safety accused Threet of being addicted to the medication and associating with known criminals.

They wanted to fire him but there was a hearing and the “department failed to prove its case and the sergeant was reinstated,” paperwork stated.

Threet was booked into the Metro jail and later released on $1,000 bond. He is next due in court on June 25 at 9 a.m.

News 2’s attempts to reach Threet Monday were unsuccessful.
