COLUMBIA, Tenn. -

An armed robbery suspect who fled police after a two-county pursuit last week has been arrested.

News 2 has learned Brandon Richards surrendered to U.S. marshals in Montgomery, Alabama Monday.

Richards, 21, was a passenger in a vehicle stopped for a minor traffic violation on Interstate 65 South near McEwen Drive in Franklin around 8 p.m. Friday.

During the traffic stop, the officer discovered that Richards had outstanding warrants for an armed robbery and home invasion in Crenshaw County, Alabama.

Authorities also found what may have been meth in the car.

"We do believe the suspect was armed with a handgun at the time of the traffic stop," Brentwood police Assistant Chief Tommy Walsh told News 2. It was a Brentwood officer that first stopped the vehicle.

While the officer was questioning Richards and the female driver, Carolyn Hall, 21, Hall sped off on I-65 South.

Spike strips deployed near mile marker 47 in Columbia forced Hall to exit I-65 onto Bear Creek Pike.

"There were a couple of attempts to deploy spike strips by the [Tennessee] Highway Patrol,” Walsh explained, adding, “The first one failed. The second one was successful.”

The car crashed into a ditch behind a Burger King.

Hall was taken into custody without incident but Richards fled on foot.

"Fortunately there were no accidents or nothing like that that took place," Walsh said.

A short time, authorities said Richards broke into a locked, fenced-in area at Cleburne Farm Supply on Highway 412 and stole a Chevrolet pickup truck.

The facility is about 200 yards from where Hall’s car crashed.

Monday, Richards surrendered himself at the sheriff’s office in Montgomery County, Alabama, where U.S. marshals were waiting for him.

The stolen pickup truck was also recovered.

Richards is currently incarnated in the Montgomery County jail but will be extradited to Crenshaw County to face previous charges.

Following her arrest, Hall was charged with evading arrest, driving without a license and improper display of a license plate. She was booked into the Williamson County jail on $26,500 bond.
