Franklin mom warns of mosquito-borne disease after son falls ill

FRANKLIN, Tenn. - Franklin mother Kristie Naes knows first-hand how debilitating a mosquito-borne disease can be.

Her 3-year-old son suffered from one after he was bitten during the family’s recent trip to the Caribbean.

“The day we arrived, our son was bitten by a mosquito and infected with Dengue Fever. Chikungunya is the exact same type of virus, carried by the same mosquito, but Dengue Fever can be fatal,” Naes told News 2.

Naes’ son suffered from vomiting, dehydration and severe pain. Fortunately, he survived.

Naes warns other travelers and families in Middle Tennessee to take the warning seriously and use insect repellant.

The same type of mosquito that hurt her son in the Caribbean is common in Middle Tennessee.
