DAVIDSON COUNTY, Tenn. -

Several strangers rescued a man after he crashed on Vietnam Veterans Boulevard Thursday morning.

The accident occurred just before 7 a.m. pass exit one, near Conference Drive.

Police say 45-year-old Gerald Freeman was driving the speed limit when he blew a tire.

He lost control and hit the median, causing his SUV to flip over several times.

Casey Jennings, who was driving behind Freeman, witnessed the crash.

“Seeing something like this for the first time in my life in person right in front of me, it was, just couldn't believe it was going on,” said Jennings.

Jennings pulled over and got out of his car to help.

“I started screaming for drivers behind me to get out and help me and roll the truck over cause I didn’t know what his condition was, and we were trying to save him.”

Police said Jennings and about six other people pushed the SUV on its side and pulled Freeman out through the sunroof.

“It was just basic instinct to help a driver. I mean, help somebody else out cause that could have been me, and I would want them to do the same thing for me,” Jennings stated.

He said two nurses who witnessed the crash also stopped to help.

Freeman was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he was listed in critical but stable condition.
