MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - A Murfreesboro police officer under investigation for stealing from the department has resigned after pleading guilty to the charges.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation began investigating Officer Jason Lowder in January after learning he sold used bulletproof vests on Craigslist and Armslist.

The investigation further revealed that Lowder made at least one sale from the back of his patrol vehicle while in uniform.

Lowder later admitted to selling the equipment and resigned his position with Murfreesboro police.

Lowder pleaded guilty to theft on Friday.  He was sentenced to probation and must pay a $1,000 fine.  Lowder must also surrender his certification as a police officer in Tennessee.
