SPRINGFIELD, Tenn. -

A cat was injured and a home completely destroyed after a fire broke out in Robertson County Thursday afternoon.

Smokey Barn News said the home, which caught fire around 1:30 p.m., is located at the Circle J Ranch on Bethlehem Road in Springfield.

No one was injured, but the family’s pet cat sustained some burns.

Firefighters said its fur was smoking, so they doused it with water before it ran off.

Homeowner Carl Robertson eventually got a hold of his cat again and told Smokey Barn it will be taken to the veterinarian.

He also explained that the fire started when he and a friend were trying to start a truck.

The truck backfired causing gas to pool up underneath it, which then ignited.

The two men attempted to control the fire, but it spread too quickly.

Fire crews from across the county responded to the scene and were able to extinguish the flames, but the home and attached car shop are considered a total loss.
