Vanderbilt pitcher Tyler Beede 14th pick of MLB Draft

Junior pitcher Tyler Beede is the 12th Vanderbilt Commodore ever to go in the first round of the Major League Baseball Draft.

The ‘Dores star right hander went to the San Francisco Giants 14th overall. Beede was taken 21st overall coming out of high school in 2011, but chose to go to Vanderbilt instead.

The right-hander joins a long list of Commodores to be taken in the first round during the Tim Corbin era, including David Price, Pedro Alvarez and Sonny Gray.

Beede is the seventh Vanderbilt pitcher selected in the first round since 2004 and eighth in history.

Beede enters this weekend’s Super Regional vs. Stanford 8-7 with a 3.20 ERA and a team-best 106 strikeouts over 98.1 innings.

The right-hander struck out a career-best 14 last Friday night over eight scoreless innings to earn the win against Xavier in the opening game of the NCAA Regional.
