NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

A 69-year-old man was critically injured after he was struck by a minivan in Bellevue Monday night.

Police said Patrick Nelson Jr. was attempting to cross Old Hickory Boulevard in front of the Iroquois Apartments around 9:25 p.m. when he was hit.

The driver of the minivan, Rose Carroll, was turning out of the Kroger parking lot across the street.

It is unknown why Carroll didn’t see Nelson, although the location is congested with four travel lanes and a turn lane.

Police said Carroll showed no indication of impairment.

Nelson was not in a crosswalk. The nearest crosswalk is approximately 400 feet from where he was hit.

No charges have been placed.

The investigation is continuing.

Nelson remains at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in critical condition.
