NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

A father is accused of leaving the scene of an accident that left his three-year-old seriously hurt.

The accident occurred at 7:48 p.m. Friday night on Berkley Drive and Barry Drive in Madison.

Authorities said a man was driving an SUV with his four children inside when he lost control as he reached a curve, causing the vehicle to flip over.

The three-year-old was taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. The other children were not hurt.

According to Metro police, the driver fled the scene of the accident, leaving his children behind.  He was found at the Berkley Hills Apartments on Berkley Drive a short time later.

Police believe he was impaired when he wrecked his SUV.

The father was taken to Nashville General Hospital at Meharry for a blood test.

Warrants were obtained for vehicular assault, leaving the scene of an injury accident and driving on a revoked license.

The warrants will be served to the father once he is released from the hospital.
