COLUMBIA, Tenn. -

A 7-year-old boy was pinned underneath a pickup truck after the vehicle crashed into a Columbia restaurant Friday morning.

It happened just after 8 a.m. at the Hardee’s on Hampshire Pike at James Campbell Boulevard.

Police said the driver of the truck, an elderly man, accidentally hit the gas pedal instead of the brake as he pulled into a parking spot at the restaurant.

"I was just walking in and I saw the truck pulling in and he gunned it.  He didn't even brake or nothing.  He just went right through the window," employee Richard Eddy told News 2.

The truck crashed through a window and struck a grandfather, Roy Potts, and his two grandsons, Walker and Brody, ages 5 and 7, who were sitting at a table eating breakfast.

SLIDESHOW: Photos from the scene

Walker,7, was pinned under the truck. Employees and customers tried to lift the truck off the boy but couldn’t.

"We got the little one out, but the bigger one was still pinned under the truck between the bumper and the table.  We couldn't do anything.  Kids were screaming," said Eddy.

Emergency personnel responded and freed the boy. He was taken by helicopter to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville. He suffered lacerations to his leg but is expected to survive.

Five-year-old Brody, suffered lacerations, as did his grandfather.

Brody was taken to nearby Maury Regional Medical Center for treatment and has since been treated and released. The grandfather was treated at the scene.

The driver of the truck was also taken to Maury Regional Medical Center as a precaution.

A passenger in the truck, an elderly woman, was uninjured.

Charges weren’t immediately filed. The investigation is ongoing.

The Hardee’s drive-thru is open but the restaurant itself will remain closed while crews clean up the scene.
