NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A motorcyclist was killed and a woman injured in a crash in the Whites Creek area north of Nashville Wednesday morning.

It happened on Moormans Arm Road between Buena Vista Pike and Whites Creek Pike after the driver, identified as 25-year-old Corey Hockett II, left the roadway and travelled down an embankment.

Authorities responded to the area around 6:40 a.m. after a passerby discovered a 23-year-old woman bleeding on the side of the road.

The woman, Sharita Johnson, presumed to have been on the motorcycle, was unable to say how she sustained her injuries. Officers did, however, say her injures are consistent with a motorcycle crash.

She was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where she was last listed in critical condition.

Hockett's body wasn't discovered until authorities returned to the crash site later that afternoon to investigate.  He was found in thick brush not far from the crashed 202 Kawasaki motorcycle.

Police are working to determine the exact time of the crash and will speak with Johnson when her condition improves.
