Anonymous person foots bill for Vietnam veteran on Memorial Day

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

Mt. Juliet resident and war veteran Eddie Terry and his wife, Judy, went to Cracker Barrel on Memorial Day morning, and a kind stranger decided to pay their respect with a kind gesture.

Terry served in the Vietnam War and was stationed in San Diego. Over the course of his service, he was deployed three times.

He told News 2 he’s grateful for his service.

“It took a wild heathen and turned him into a man,” Terry explained.

Memorial Day morning, Terry wore his U.S. Navy hat to breakfast.

Another diner donned a similar hat, leading the two to swap stories of their time in the military.

When it came time to leave Cracker Barrel, the cashier told the Terrys there was no check to be paid; someone had already taken care of it.

Terry was shocked and said, “My jaw just dropped!”

He told News 2 he wished he knew who the mystery person was because he just wants to thank them.

When asked if Terry would “pay it forward” and treat an unsuspecting guest to breakfast, he replied, “It's gonna happen. I don't know when or where, but it's gonna happen."
