BOSTON, Mass. - A six-year-old Massachusetts girl created posters in an effort to help her mother receive a kidney transplant.

Jenny Williams underwent the successful kidney transplant Friday thanks to the help of her adopted daughter, ABC News reported.

Williams, who was born with only one functioning kidney, underwent a transplant in 1990, but that organ began failing in 2011.

The 50-year-old mother of two was then placed on a waiting list, alongside nearly 2,200 Massachusetts residents who were also in need of a kidney donation.

After enduring overnight dialysis session three times per week for three years, six-year-old Jocelyn decided to make posters in an effort to help her mother receive the kidney she needed.

The posters, which included drawings by Jocelyn read, “Mom Jenny needs a kidney” and included the family’s phone number, were distributed by a local church that also helped raise awareness of Williams’ need.

Williams, who received the donation from a living donor who suffered a stroke, could be released from Tufts Medical Center as early as Tuesday.

“The family is thrilled, they were so happy she finally got a kidney and can put this ordeal behind them,” hospital spokesman Jeremy Lechan told ABC News.

The Williams family adopted Jocelyn when she was just two days old.
