1 killed, juvenile injured in crash on Ashland City Highway

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

A 58-year old Nashville woman was killed and her 5-year-old granddaughter was injured in a single-vehicle crash Sunday evening in Nashville.

Police told News 2 Bertha Furkins, of River Trace, was traveling west on Ashland City Highway around 6 p.m.

For unknown reasons her pickup truck crossed into the eastbound lanes, went off the road and down an embankment.

Furkins died at the scene.

Her 5-year old granddaughter was transported to Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt University with non-life threatening injuries.

The victim’s names have not been released because police are still notifying their next of kin.
