NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

Veterans in Middle Tennessee were honored for their service Saturday.

AMVETS, a veterans services organization, held several ceremonies throughout Nashville.

They laid wreaths at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, the Korean War Memorial, the World War I Memorial and the World War II Memorial.

“Memorial day is not just about cook outs. It's a weekend that a lot of families are wishing they could have cookouts with men and women who paid the ultimate sacrifice for us to have those cookouts,” stated country singer and U.S. Marine Stephen Cochran.

Saturday’s event was the first of three days of activities the organization has planned to honor the nation’s heroes.
