Thousands attend memorial service for Don Meyer

BERDEEN, S.D.-Thousands of people attended former Lipscomb coach Don Meyer's memorial service in South Dakota Saturday.

The 69-year-old passed away Sunday of cancer in Aberdeen, where he finished his career at Northern State University.

The public memorial service was held on campus in the Barnett Center at 3 p.m.

Photos, videos and cell phones were not allowed, but the service was streamed over the Internet.

A second memorial service will be held June 1 at Lipscomb University.

Meyer coached 24 seasons at Lipscomb, earning NAIA coach of the year twice and leading the Bison to the 1986 title.

He had one of the best winning records in college basketball history.
