NASHVILLE- An eighth grader at Franklin Road Academy has made a name for himself at the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association's Track and Field Championship.

JC Clausi competed in Friday’s Division II Triple Jump Championships knowing he still has four more chances at a state title.

After earning a fourth place finish at AAU Nationals, FRA coaches decided to pull Clausi up to compete at the high school level. They expected him to do well, but to qualify for the state meet was an added bonus.

“If you have a freshman that makes it to state, you are really, really excited,” said head coach David Tucker. “But to have an eighth grader, that’s unbelievable.”

For his parents, the decision to let him compete at the high school level was an easy one.

“We’ve always wanted him to compete against the best,” explained his mother, Arlena. “We didn’t want him to stay winning and have it be easy. We wanted him to be challenged.”

Her son agreed that it was the right decision.

“Being in eighth grade, it’s always good to come out here and compete against high school kids,” said Clausi. “You have nothing to lose when you come out here.”

Clausi finished in seventh place with a 39’8” jump and is already looking forward to next year.
