SAN DIEGO, CA, May 22, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Christian Fanning is in the football program at Eastern Washington University in the Big Sky Conference. He is originally from San Diego, California, where he was a star player at Cathedral Catholic High School. Christian Fanning knows that he is fortunate to have his athletic abilities and that he is lucky to be in the position he is in.

Christian Fanning learned early in life that he must never take his good fortune for granted. From the time he was in middle school he has been active in community service. Christian Fanning has volunteered his time to the Corazon de Vida Foundation in Mexico. Corazon de Vida, or CDV, is a nonprofit organization based in the United States.

Corazon de Vida (CDV) means "Heart of Life." The organization was formed in 1994, and raises funds and support for the children of Baja, Mexico. Many children there live in desperate poverty, and Mexico is not able to provide a future for these youngest of its citizens. In addition to immediate needs like shelter, food, clothing, and healthcare, CDV provides Baja orphans with hope, compassion, and love. "We believe that every child's life is valued and holds the same potential, excitement and opportunity as any other life," CDV says on its website. "It is up to us to work together to make sure our care transforms into each child's hope for the future."

Christian Fanning has heeded the call, and is among the volunteers who have brought needed supplies to Baja residents. He has also given hands-on support in CDV's "building a home in a day" program for homeless families. Christian Fanning believes in CDV's objective of ending the cycle of poverty and homelessness in Mexico.

Even before he got involved with CDV, when he was still in the seventh grade, Christian Fanning became a member of Teen Volunteers in Action, or TVIA. TVIA is a San Diego Philanthropy Organization for teenaged boys in grades seven through twelve.

All told, Christian Fanning gave 120 hours of his time to TVIA. He has been involved in such worthy causes as serving the homeless, distributing and sorting food at local food banks, working with physically and emotionally handicapped people, participating in neighborhood, beach, and park cleanups, and working with foster care youth, refugees, and seniors. Christian Fanning also had an interest in TVIA's Leadership Council, and served on it from eighth through the twelfth grade.

Through their leadership council program, TVIA believes its young members will grow up to become strong community leaders. The volunteer opportunities for the teens involve active, hands-on service in their community.

Now, Christian Fanning spends much of his time training to improve his place kicking and kick off skills. He says he would like to take it to the next level by earning the starting placekicker and kickoff specialist spots at Eastern Washington and contribute to the team winning an FCS National Championship. The coaches who have seen him play over the years say that Christian Fanning has what it takes. As one of them said, "He can easily kick at the D I level."

When he isn't on the football field, Christian Fanning studies Fitness and Sports Medicine.

About: Christian Fanning has donated his time to community service, and learned from the experience.
