Music City Center celebrates 1-year anniversary

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

Tuesday marked the one-year anniversary of Nashville’s newest convention center.

Music City Center Executive Chef Max Knoepfel and his staff whipped up a replica cake for the first birthday celebration.

The $623 million convention center, that dominates six city blocks downtown, is on pace to exceed economic impact projections of $200 million for its first fiscal year.

Last year, Mayor Karl Dean announced that the city had met its goal of 1 million hotel rooms being booked even before the 1.2 million-square-foot facility had opened.

Since then, it has been filled with events such as CMA Fest’s Fan Fair X and the Music City Sports Festival.

Convention Center Authority President Marty Dickens headed up the feasibility study nearly 10 years ago, and likes what he's seeing now.

Dickens said, “We went to the people of the city, and they gave all kinds of great input. As a result, we have this building called the Music City Center, so we're very proud of it, and it has definitely exceeded everybody's expectations."

Dickens added that event bookings at the convention center extend into the year 2026.
