Siegel High School students disciplined after prank

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Several Siegel High School students won’t be participating in next week’s graduation ceremony after vandalizing the school for their senior class prank last week.

While as many 150 students participated in the prank, most caused minor levels of mischief.

Ten students have been identified as those who caused more destructive damage to the school and those students won’t be able to walk with their class at graduation next Tuesday, May 27.

Among those is a student who admitted to taking keys belonging to a parent who is a teacher at Siegel. That is how the students gained entry into the school.

No teachers were involved in the prank as previously thought, schools’ spokesperson James Evans said.

Two other students were responsible for spraying cooking oil on the school's floors. The oil created an unsafe environment for students and, as a result, school had to be dismissed early on Friday for a full cleaning.

Both students will not be participating in next week’s graduation.

The seven other students were responsible for damaging wrestling mats that will likely cost hundreds if not thousands of dollars to replace.
Evans said the students dragged the mats outside and poured water on them.

The other students who participated in the lower level mischief must complete eight hours of community service before they will be allowed to participate in graduation next week.

Evans said the school will let them work off their hours this week or through a third-party non-profit organization, such as the Red Cross.

Principal Jason Bridgeman is also holding a cleanup day at the school and a car wash on Saturday. Students can work off their hours at either event.
