Titans draft QB not controversy

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Jake Locker may be in the final year of his contract, but the Titans have also made it clear this is still his football team.

Tennessee traded up to draft LSU’s Zach Mettenberger in the sixth round of the NFL Draft last week and while they say he can come in and compete they also indicated Locker is the teams’ starting quarterback.

General manager Ruston Webster said he thinks they should look at drafting a quarterback to develop every year, but this is the first QB they have selected since drafting Locker eighth in 2011.

Webster also said he does not see the addition of Mettenberger being any kind of disruption or distraction for Locker, “I tell you one thing about it, there's one guy I don't worry about handling things is Jake Locker… In talking to him, he's really not fazed by any of it.”

Since being named the Titans starting quarterback two seasons ago Locker has missed 14 of 32 games with knee, hip, foot and shoulder injuries.  That injury history had some wondering if the Titans would turn the page on Locker this offseason.
